Right to Education Project Re-Launch

Dear Colleagues,

The Right to Education Project
www.right-to-education.org

The Right to Education Project has recently redesigned its public access
resource centre on the Internet, so that it is now even easier to research
the right to education.

The essential background information on the right to education continues to
be uploaded. Recent additions include the first stage of a project tracking
development aid for education: The right to education in development
assistance, advanced copies of the 2002 annual report of the Special
Rapporteur on the right to education, Ms Katarina Tomaševski, the report of
the Special Rapporteur's mission to the United States of America in 2001
and the forthcoming publication on Minority Rights in Education. This
compliments existing background information including excerpts from
relevant international treaties which guarantee the right to education,
ratifications and reservations which reveal the international commitments
for each country, constitutional provisions, important court cases and
decisions of national human rights commissions related to the right to
education.

The Project has produced a series of Primers, intended as a tool for
development, educational, human rights and other professionals whose work
brings them into contact with educational issues. The aim of the Primers is
to elucidate key dimensions of the right to education tackling key
misconceptions which hinder the advancement of education as a human right.
The four Primers are:
*       Removing obstacles on the road to the right to education;
* Free and compulsory education for all children: The gap between
promise and performance;
* Human rights obligations: Making education available, accessible,
acceptable and adaptable;
* Human rights in education as prerequisite for human rights education.
