Re: Does human rights education make a difference?

Dear colleagues,

Thank you for helping us in reaching our HRE colleagues through the
network. I have made a slight change in the announcement for we missed
putting our postal address in the first one, and so I would request you all
to kindly share this with others again.

Thanking you.

Warm regards,

Sanjay

===========================================

Dear HRE Colleagues,

Greetings from ARRC !!!

For decades, many groups in Asia and the Pacific have been implementing
human rights education programs at the grassroots level. There are many
cases of successful implementation of programs but not many people know
about them outside their own community or country. Information on these
cases can not only inspire other groups into doing human rights education,
but also provide models to be followed.

ARRC feels that now is the time to compile success stories from the region.
This compilation would document our experiences, our reflections, our
history and convictions that have developed whilst working as human rights
education advocates in the Asia and the Pacific region.

As part of our ongoing service in the Asia Pacific region, we are launching
a project called "Does Human Rights Education Makes a difference?" The goal
of this research work is to collect personal interviews, printed materials,
manuals, etc. and document likewise the successful experience in human
rights education from groups or individuals conducting non-formal and
formal human rights education programmes or projects in this region.

We at ARRC are happy to announce that we have been successful in
documenting and sharing some experiences of human rights educators in the
Asia-Pacific region. However, more needs to be done. For the need of the
hour is to facilitate exchanges of experiences, strategies and
methodologies which reflect our convictions that have developed whilst
facilitating human rights education and we at ARRC are aiming to do the same.

In lieu with this, we would like to draw the attention of our friends and
colleagues to our ongoing research work in documenting HRE success stories.
We like to take this opportunity to invite HRE advocates to kindly submit
success stories so that the experience and knowledge can be shared and our
partners can enhance their skills and be more inspired that, "it can happen".

In appreciation ARRC's Selection Committee, will offer awards and modest
cash incentives for the best success story to the HRE advocates to share
their experiences and help inspire their fellow advocates for the same.

Please send in your stories or a story you know to us so that we can
compile and publish the same in our quarterly journal, which we are going
to start. The first publication of which will be launched shortly by
December 2001. Kindly send the story as Word document, A 4 page, between
2000-2500 words, Times Roman Font, 12-point size with 1.5 line space.
Kindly send a covering page consisting of the title of your story, along
with your name, full postal address, contact telephone / fax numbers with
dial codes and email(s). The story should be sent via email as Word
attachment, along with two copies of the same via post, marked "HRE Success
Story". For any further clarifications kindly contact the undersigned.

We would also like to request everyone to kindly share this information
with those partners who do not have access to Internet so that they too
could share their experience and also with those whom you know with
interest in HRE advocacy.

Looking forward to share your experiences and exploring the possibilities
of networking to create a new culture of human rights.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Warm regards,

Sanjay
