Asian HRE Trainer's Colloquium (Chieng Mai, 1-6 April 2001)

Dear Colleagues,

The Asian Regional Resource Center for Human Rights Education (ARRC) a
regional HRE Centre based in Bangkok, Thailand will hold a regional
gathering entitled Asian Human Rights Education Trainer's Colloquium. The
activity will be held in Chieng Mai, Thailand, on April 1-6, 2001.

This initiative is a contribution to the development and strengthening of
regional and national capacities for human rights education in Asia, in
line with ARRC's new three year cycle program. The activity aims to
contribute also to the UN Decade for Human Rights Education (1995-2004).

The objectives of the event are the following:

A. To provide a venue for Asian trainers to enhance and develop their
knowledge, skills and attitudes towards the use of creative participatory
processes in human rights education training;

B. To bring together Asian trainers for consultation, sharing and learning
from each other's experiences in relation to a previous publication of
ARRC's, entitled HRE Pack (1995);

C. To reflect on and further develop participatory methodologies and
frameworks based on both the HRE Pack and other methodologies tested
throughout the region;

D. To produce a second edition of the HRE Pack, which will be based on the
discussions at the Colloquium.

The activity will be attended by more than 35 participants coming from
Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, East Timor, India, Korea, Malaysia,
Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

The ARRC HRE PACK, is a publication which is broadly used in the region by
