Con profunda pena - Perico Pérez Aguirre

Abraham

In Memoriam - Perico Pérez Aguirre

Rose Maria Mujica (IPEDEHP) and Soraya El Achkar (Latin American Network
for Peace and Human Rights Education) notified to me of the death of
Perico. The loss of Perico Pérez Aguirre is a great challenge for human
rights educators. Far, at the end of the decade of the 1980s, it travels
back to SERPAJ Uruguay to show me human rights education and I found Pérez
Aguirre who inspired us to rethink education from a critical paradigm.
These were times in which many, but not all our countries (Chile and
Paraguay still were under the boots of dictatorship), had begun the
transition to democracy. Perico showed, with vision yet cautious of the
future, that this way would not be easy, but that through education we
could make our contribution. What can be said confronted with such a great
tragedy? When there are no words it is better not to speak. But what can
we do? We can try to perpetuate his great contribution to the cause of
human rights education.

I am convinced that truth and justice will prevail and I would like to
point out that today a judge ruled that Augusto Pinochet will be tried.

With affection,

Abraham
