[hr-education] Re: Materials for HRE through music

Maria Eugenia Villareal and I are organizing human rights panels for the
conference of the International Peace Research Association to be held in
Finland in early August. In regard to Georgia Zervou's inquiry, copied
below, we would be pleased to have a panel on Human Rights and the Arts,
if there is sufficient interest.

Our announcement regarding the human rights panels is provided below

CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR MEETING OF THE
COMMISSION ON INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS (CIHR)

OF THE INTERNATIONAL PEACE RESEARCH ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE,
AUGUST 5-9, 2000, IN TAMPERE, FINLAND

The 20th century has seen humankind achieve many breakthroughs in the
fields of technology, communication, science, medicine, education etc.
However, there have been many negative events as well, such as genocide,
degradation of the natural environment, widespread malnutrition, and
regional and national wars that have made life miserable for many people
of the world.

The widening gap between the haves and have-nots has caused jealousy,
rivalry and unnecessary competition among brothers and sisters.

The new millennium gives us another opportunity to fulfil one of
humanity's oldest dreams, the RIGHT TO PEACE. The Commission on
International Human Rights for its meeting in the year 2000 will be "Human
Rights and Global Governance in the New Millennium".

The central theme of our Commission's agenda, is how to make this earth a
more livable and more humane place for all.

Sessions will include paper presentations, round table discussions and
some joint sessions with other IPRA commissions such as Ecological
Security, Peace Education and Women and Peace, etc.

Working within the overall theme, we invite you to submit proposals for
individual presentations or complete panels.

If you are interested to make a presentation at CIHR in Tampere, Finland
in August 2000, please communicate your intentions and send your abstract
to either of the two co-convenors.

Unfortunately, CIHR cannot provide any sort of financial assistance to
participants in the IPRA Conference.
