[***Moderator's note: This message with recommendations on combating racims in schools was originally posted on the Global HRE List and specifically intended for schools in Council of Europe member states yet some of the measures may be applicable in North America too.***] ECRI -- 40 measures for combating racism at school On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March), the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) of the Council of Europe has published today its General Policy Recommendation No. 10 on combating racism and racial discrimination in and through school education. This Recommendation proposes 40 concrete measures to member States for (1) ensuring compulsory, free and quality education for all, (2) for combating racism and racial discrimination at school and (3) for training members of the teaching profession to work in a multicultural environment.
