Preventing Genocide: A Series of Podcasts and Online Discussions

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I am convinced if the world had listened to those of us who tried to
speak, we may have prevented Darfur, Cambodia, Bosnia and naturally
Rwanda...The question I have is: Will the world ever learn?" -Elie Wiesel

Please join us for three new podcasts and online discussions that feature
experts in the field of genocide prevention. The podcasts will consider
the legacy of Raphael Lemkin, the individual who coined the word
"genocide;" the politics of intervention; and the inspiring work of young
anti-genocide activists today. Presented in collaboration with the United
States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Committee on Conscience. This project
was made possible by the generous support of Carolyn and Laurence Belfer.

Following each podcast, we will facilitate online discussions with the
speakers in each of the podcasts. Online discussions are open to the
public; you may participate in one or all of the sessions.

Background readings and lesson plans from Facing History's newest case
study, "Totally Unofficial: Raphael Lemkin and the Invention of Genocide"
will also be available.

Check our website on the dates below to download the podcasts and register

professional development organization whose mission is to engage students
of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and
antisemitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and
informed citizenry. By studying the historical development and lessons of
the Holocaust and other examples of genocide, students make the essential
