Dear colleagues,

Facing History and Ourselves is once again proud to offer an online course
for educators, "Facing History and Ourselves: Holocaust and Human
Behavior." The course will be conducted twice in the next few months:

--February 15, 2007 - April 4, 2007, or,
--March 22, 2007 - 16 May, 2007.

This eight-week course will explore Facing History's content, methodology,
and unique approach to teaching history. The eight-week course requires a
commitment of approximately four hours of work per week. There are no
"live" events, so course participants find the time to do the weekly
assignments and participate in the online discussions at their
convenience.

***Spaces and a limited number of scholarships are still available
for courses beginning FEBRUARY 15TH and MARCH 22ND (
http://www.facinghistory.org/OnlineCourseList ).

TRANSFORM YOUR CLASSROOM!
Renew your commitment to growing and learning; bring content and
methodology into your classroom that will engage and transform your
students; enjoy the flexible professional development opportunity afforded
by taking an online course.

Take Facing History and Ourselves' online course, "Holocaust and Human
Behavior,"and gain full access to our in-depth professional development
services, curricular resources, and ongoing support to educators in the
areas of history, social studies, and English language arts.

By using the Holocaust as a case study, we raise profound moral questions
about the consequences of our actions and our beliefs, and we help our
students make connections between history and the moral choices they make
every day. While the Holocaust was a unique event in human history, the
questions remain universal.

Learn key strategies, such as how to:
*Create a safe environment in your classroom based on trust and respect
for different views and opinions;
*Facilitate discussions around controversial topics;
*Take an interdisciplinary approach to teaching this difficult history.

"When I was first introduced to Facing History and Ourselves I said
'Facing History? Whose History?' and it was only later that I
understood-our common history, that is what we are all trying to
learn."
-Elie Weisel

"Hearing a survivor's story in my Facing History class remains to
this day one of the most deeply affecting things that has ever
happened to me.Suddenly we were interacting with history, suddenly
there was a face on it.I owe so much to this curriculum, so much of
who I am comes out of this experience and this particular time in my
life." -Matt Damon, Facing History Alumnus

Testimonials from past online course participants:

"This course has been emotionally challenging and intellectually
stimulating. It has pushed me to redirect many of my personal and
professional goals. It has begun a change in who I am as a person,
which will inevitably transform what I do in my classroom." -Middle
School Teacher, Phoenix, Arizona

"From the beginning to end of this course, it has been valuable to
hear, see, and read the voices of the individuals that became a part
of history on every level. There are people and actions and choices
behind each historical (and present day) event we witness." -High
school Teacher, New York City, New York

"The course was a fantastic meal that I am still digesting. Most
poignant for me is my own realization of the power that an individual
can have in shaping and changing events." -University Professor,
Nishinomiya, Hyogo-ken, Japan
