3. Now Available from the Stanley Foundation: America's Uncomfortable
Relationship with Nationalism

Posted by request:

The United States has a big problem with nationalism: it's uncomfortable
with everybody else's. Yet the great irony here is that the United States
seems quite unaware of the fact that it is one of the most
enthusiastically nationalistic countries of the world.

More remarkably, the United States regularly miscalculates the force of
nationalism abroad. Today nationalism is probably the single most
widespread ideology in politics across the globe. In a new Stanley
Foundation Policy Analysis Brief
(http://www.stanleyfoundation.org/reports/pab06nss.pdf?d=061206&t=text),
Graham E. Fuller, who served as an overseas operations officer with the
CIA for 20 years, examines the roots of American views of nationalism and
the problems those views create.

About The Stanley Foundation:
The Stanley Foundation brings fresh voices, original ideas, and lasting
solutions to debates on global and regional problems. It is a nonpartisan,
private operating foundation, located in Muscatine, Iowa, that focuses on
peace and security issues and advocates principled multilateralism. For
more information about the Stanley Foundation, visit
