Job Announcement Program Manager – Education and Training Breakthrough: Building Human Rights Culture New York, New York The Organization Breakthrough: Building Human Rights Culture is an international human rights organization that uses media and popular culture to promote values of dignity, equality and justice. Breakthrough works through affiliate offices in the US and India. We work across a range of issue areas including race and immigrant rights, women’s rights, sexual and reproductive health and religion and peace. The Position We are seeking an experienced Program Manager who will develop, coordinate and implement our education and training program. Our primary constituency is high school and college youth but we also collaborate with community-based groups to deepen their understanding of human rights in the US context. The primary focus of Breakthrough in the US is immigrant rights and racial justice with a strong gender focus. Our program incorporates media production and dissemination as well as workshops and training through a human rights lens. Responsibilities The Program Manager for Education and Training will work under the supervision and management of the Executive Director and in close consultation with the New York team of Breakthrough to do the following: 1) Manage Breakthrough’s public education activities across all program areas, including • Developing educational materials for use in our education and outreach activities and website. • Facilitating workshops and training with educators, students, NGOs, and other civil society groups to engage them in promoting human rights. • Incorporating Breakthrough productions and other media and popular culture into educational outreach. 2) Assist in a range of organizational support tasks including fundraising, volunteer management, and other administrative tasks. 3) Develop and maintain relationships with youth groups, educators, trainers, and other individuals and organizations. Qualifications • Master’s degree in relevant field with three to five years experience in training and education • Excellent communication, research and writing skills • Commitment to and/or experience in promoting human rights and social justice • Excellent computer skills • Fluency in Spanish a major plus The candidate should also have the ability to work in a small, informal atmosphere in a non-profit environment with limited resources.
