EDUCATION PROGRAM ONLINE EDITOR – Program Associate 
Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights 
 
Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights is a volunteer-based non-profit
organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of internationally
recognized human rights. Minnesota Advocates documents human rights
abuses, provides direct legal representation, and educates on human rights
issues, particularly pertaining to women, children, and immigrants and
refugees.

 
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Education Program Online Editor is a new
position that is responsible for the content adaptation and
development, visual design, management, evaluation and marketing of
Minnesota Advocates new interactive website that will be used to
educate teachers, students, parents and others on issues related to
immigration and refugees and immigrants. The Online Editor will
report to the Education Program Director and will work as part of a
team to create, launch and manage the website. This position requires
a broad knowledge of the organization’s work, immigration laws and
issues, marketing and experience working with teachers and students,
as well as an ability to perform the job with flexibility. 

 
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: 

* Content Development, Visual Design and Editing 
- Work with multi-disciplinary team to develop and maintain long term
design, content and promotion strategies of the site
- Assist in adapting already existing immigration curriculum into an
interactive platform 
- Write, maintain and edit general content, including interactive
curricular resources 
- Recruit and work with a team of teachers, students and other
potential users to develop and test the website 
- Other duties as assigned 
 
* Site Management and Evaluation 
-Ensure that all content remains up-to-date 
- Work with team to produce new features from concept to execution
including original content 
- Facilitate communication between technology team, Online Editor,
volunteers and staff 
- Work with the technology consultants to implement and administer
the site 
- Develop surveys and other tools to evaluate effectiveness of the
website 
- Manage and analyze user and partner feedback 
- Design and conduct trainings for users such as teachers and
students 
- Other duties as assigned 
 
* Marketing 
- Develop and implement a communication, outreach, and marketing plan
- Develop promotional materials 
- Develop user lists 
- Attend events to promote the website and educational materials 
- Communicate with potential users 
- Other duties as assigned 
 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS DESIRED: The ideal candidate will work both
independently and effectively as part of a diverse team. S/he will
possess excellent research, writing and editing skills; have
experience teaching and writing curriculum; have an eye for detail,
excellent design skills and a good sense of content layout;
demonstrate initiative; possess a strong interest and knowledge of
immigration issues; possess knowledge of the internet and in managing
content, editing, design and development process for website
creation; and, enjoy using the internet and be familiar with
internet-based research and applications. Any technical experience is
a plus, but is not a requirement. S/he should also be responsive to
staff needs; have experience working in a non-profit environment; and
have an interest in human rights, social justice and international
affairs.
