New teaching resource on human rights

'Bill of Rights in Schools: A Resource for Post-primary Schools'
Target age group 11-18
Published by the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission on behalf of the
Bill of Rights in Schools Project
2004, ISBN 1 903681 29 4

A teaching resource which has been produced through a unique partnership
between the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and the education
authorities in Northern Ireland and with the assistance of the HREA, is
now available. The resource serves as a practical guide to the proposed
Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland. Through practical individual and
group exercises it explores the concept of human rights and provides an
introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights. The exercises
help students to think about issues which may require further protection
in Northern Ireland. It makes direct links to the Local and Global
Citizenship curriculum at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 and has material
which could be used for post-16 pupils. The resource can be used in
teaching history, law, politics and religion and will be useful in
informal learning groups as well as in the classroom setting.
