Bring the World into Your Classroom with Relief International-Schools Online Posted by request: Connect with schools in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Palestinian Territories and Tajikistan Relief International- Schools Online is running an exciting connectivity project with high schools globally. During the upcoming year these schools will be paired with high schools in the United States for school-to-school partnerships. Throughout the year partners will collaborate via information and communication technology to evaluate research, discuss and report on designated issues related to global civic education. Methods of collaboration include web-based chats and forums, e-mail exchanges, online newsletters, and message boards. We also offer the exciting opportunity for teachers to participate in free exchanges to the countries they work with! The goal of the program is to facilitate virtual school-to-school projects as a means of building international relationships and deepening the cross-cultural exchange for students and of sharing education methodologies for teachers. We are looking for passionate, involved educators who want to explore the world with their students! While the importance of other world regions to U.S. economic prosperity and social well-being has grown considerably in recent years, young Americans have relatively little knowledge of the larger world they inhabit. In June 2003, The Goldman Sachs Foundation and Asia Society created the awards program, the first ever of its kind, to address this gap by promoting international knowledge and skills in U.S. schools. The program has drawn over 400 applications from 44 states and the District of Columbia, representing the breadth of innovation in this burgeoning field. Past prizewinners have been honored in The New York Times, The Financial Times, Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, and Edutopia, and have been featured in the local and national media. Innovation and best practices from the top school applicants were featured in a unique report released in November 2004: Schools for the Global Age: Promising Practices in International Education (now available through the George Lucas Educational Foundation: http://www.edutopia.org/products/products.php). In the coming year, we plan to publish a second report using state policy innovation as the guiding framework, and featuring a broader spectrum of schools working in this field. Full information on the 2005 application process and past prizewinners is now available on our website at http://www.InternationalEd.org/prizes. Please help us in sharing this wonderful opportunity with schools, colleges and universities, state policymakers and media/technology companies.
