Global Youth Connect seeks consultant for Cambodia program



JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Part-time Consultant Position
Assistant Project Director, Cambodia

Global Youth Connect, an international human rights organization for youth,
is seeking to hire an experienced part-time consultant to serve as
Assistant Project Director for our growing Cambodia program.  The
consultant will be responsible for assisting GYC in collaboratively
developing and managing two youth human rights delegations to Cambodia to
take place during the summer of 2005.  This position requires significant
responsibility, ability to travel and work independently, and the potential
for continuing employment after the program is completed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Project Director, Cambodia will work in very close
collaboration with the Program Director and Cambodia Project
Coordinator(s).  The APD's primary responsibilities will include:

-   Assisting in curriculum design and preparation of training and resource
materials for 2 or more interactive human rights workshops bring together
program participants and young Cambodians
-   Identifying, coordinating, planning and overseeing activities for
delegation members, including researching and contacting potential workshop
facilitators, guest speakers, NGOs, service projects, and other relevant
activities
-   Facilitating orientation sessions and human rights workshops during
each of the two delegations
-   Providing support and mentoring to program participants as they prepare
for their participation in the program and during the delegation experience
-  Coordinating logistical needs for the project and acting as
problem-solver for any issues that may arise during the course of the
delegation
-   Ensuring the safety and security of the delegation members during their
stay in Cambodia
-   Building  and maintaining relationships with Cambodian NGOs and young
Cambodians interested in human rights issues
-   Preparing evaluation and program reports at the request of the Program
Director and recommendations for future programs and collaboration
-   Other duties, as needed and requested, to develop and manage a strong
and successful program


QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

-   Excellent written and oral communication skills
-   At least 5 years experience working in the human rights field with a
strong interest and experience in international development, intercultural
understanding and youth activism
-   Workshop facilitation skills and experience in a cross-cultural setting
and familiarity with innovative teaching pedagogies
-   Ability to travel to and work in Cambodia from mid-June to the end of
August
-   U.S. citizen or qualified to work in the U.S.
-   Sense of humor, ability to work well under pressure, willingness to
take initiative and work independently and collaboratively,  and comfort
and sensitivity working in other cultural contexts

Preferred:

-   Advanced degree in relevant field
-   Candidates interested in potential growth and continued work with GYC
in the future
-   Knowledge of and/or experience  working in Cambodia and/or Southeast Asia
-   Language skills in Khmer and/or French


SALARY

Consultant will be paid on an hourly basis for hours worked before and
after the delegation at a rate of no more than $20 per hour.  A stipend of
$5,500 plus travel and living expenses (housing and food) will be paid by
GYC to consultant while living and working in Phnom Penh and other areas of
Cambodia. Salary is $20/hour.  There is potential for growth and additional
work with the organization upon successful completion of this project.


OTHER INFORMATION

Candidates must be able to begin working on an hourly basis as of April 4th
with an expected workload of approximately 10-15 hrs/week until traveling
to Cambodia in mid-June.  Hourly work will continue for 1-2 weeks after
completion of the two delegations.

Consultant will be able to work from home before and after the delegations
but must be able to travel, live and work in Cambodia from mid-June to the
end of August 2005.
