Building Welcoming and Inclusive Communities (Alberta)

Dear colleagues:

The Government of Alberta (Alberta Community Development and Alberta
Seniors and Community Supports) has partnered with Global Television
Alberta to develop a second phase of the successful "Help Make a
Difference" awareness initiative. The initiative continues the theme
identified in the first phase, of building better intercultural
understanding, and features new themes related to reducing discrimination
against and building inclusion of people with disabilities, and women.

There are two components to this initiative. First, a new series of public
service announcements (PSAs) are being aired on Global Television's
Alberta network, continuing through June 2005. The PSAs feature the
un-scripted voices of a diverse group of individuals relating personal
experiences and challenges faced in everyday life. The PSAs encourage
viewers to consider their own actions and how they can make a difference
in building welcoming and inclusive communities.

In addition, the Help Make a Difference website has been updated. You can
view the PSAs on the website. In addition, it provides tips on actions
Albertans can take to be more inclusive, and includes participant
biographies and links to other helpful websites. These tips & PSAs are
available in a pdf file on the website for those who wish to use them as
part of their own educational initiatives.

There's a feedback form on the website for you to provide comments, and we
encourage you and others to provide comments.
