1. Student Travel and Hosting Opportunities with AFS-USA

Posted by request:

As a global educator, you are cognizant of how living and studying in
another country promotes the kind of learning and understanding that
changes how young people view others, and the world, for the rest of their
lives. Each year, the nonprofit organization AFS-USA sends more than
1,500 students to more than 40 countries, awards more than $1 million in
scholarships and financial aid to students, and places students from
abroad with more than 2,700 U.S. host families. Chances are you know of
some great young people who would benefit by having a study abroad
experience like the new summer 3-in-1 program in Panama that provides
students with a well-rounded immersion in the Panamanian culture as they
live with a host family, perform community service in the mornings, and
take Spanish classes in the afternoons.

Your family can change the world without leaving home! AFS is always in
need of host families who want to share their homes and lives. Help build
bridges of intercultural understanding by welcoming an AFS Exchange
Student for a year or semester. Most students arrive in late summer. AFS
also needs "Aunts" and "Uncles" to share special times with students and
community volunteers.

For more information about AFS programs abroad, scholarships,
opportunities to host a student or teacher, how to reconnect with AFS if
you are a returnee, or how to volunteer in your community with AFS, please
contact us at 1-800-AFS-INFO, mailto:afsinfo@afs.org, or
http://www.afs.org/usa.

2. Become a Global Educator to Thailand!

Posted by request:

AFS-USA and AFS Thailand, with the support of the US Embassy in Bangkok
and the Ministry of Education in Thailand, are pleased to offer an
innovative teaching opportunity in Thailand. Thailand needs current and
former educators to assist primary and secondary school students and
teachers in meeting Thailand Education Act requirements for English as a
second language.

Program Dates: Orientation in LA, 29 April 2005; Depart U.S. 30 April
End-of-stay orientation: 17-23 Sep. 2005; Depart Thailand 24 Sept.

Eligibility Pre-requisites:
Teaching certificate (ESL helpful but not required)
Prior teaching experience
Between 25-55 years old (contact us if you are outside this range)
Flexible, patient, open-minded and adaptable
Able to develop English classroom content

Participants will be teaching students aged 10-18, though primarily
secondary school students, and will be assigned to schools in cities
throughout Thailand (except Bangkok).
Participants will live with host families or in teachers' living quarters
on the school campus (common in Thailand).

Participants receive a monthly stipend of Baht 15,000 (approximately
$400.00). This is sufficient to live comfortably in Thailand. Teaching
content will likely be conversational or written English rather than
grammar. Participants should expect to have 18 teaching sessions per week,
at 55 minutes per session. Teaching materials and advisory assistance will
be provided by host schools, although US participants should prepare
informal teaching materials to bring. Opportunity to participate in other
school activities and AFS activities such as orientations or meetings.

Orientation:
Pre-departure orientation program and arrival orientation including
language survival study and Thai education system.

Program fee: $500
In conjunction with the scholarship fee, this includes international
airfare, visa assistance, orientations, travel within Thailand, placement
with carefully-screened host family and school, 24 hour AFS support while
on-program. We are able to offer this program for only $500 thanks to
scholarship funding from the US Embassy and Thai Ministry of Education.

4. High School Scholarship Program for Muslim Students Seeks Cluster
Leaders Nationwide

Posted by request:

PAX-Program of Academic Exchange is a non-profit educational foundation
that promotes and arranges inbound and outbound high school/homestay
programs. In 2003 PAX administered the first year of the "Partnerships for
Learning Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES)," an innovative high
school exchange program funded by the U.S. Department of State to create
exchange opportunities between the U.S. and the Muslim world. To date,
PAX has received full scholarship students from Turkey, Egypt, Indonesia,
Malaysia and the Philippines.

Due to the success of the past two years, the program will double the
number of finalists this spring! PAX YES is looking for Cluster Leaders to
represent the PAX program in their local communities (any state is
welcome). Working directly with the regional director in the national
office, a Cluster Leader will help to arrange homestays and high school
enrollment for 3 scholarship finalists per year. Cluster Leaders will earn
commission per student (which is part of the grant), will be cordially
invited to attend an annual PAX 4-day national meeting (held each year at
a different resort location, all expenses paid), and will have a chance to
get to know their neighbors and communities better, while showing America
to these most deserving youngsters.

Last year several RPCVs served as YES Cluster Leaders: Karen Hagewood and
Dennis McMahon of CA, Maranee Sanders of OR, Carol Radomski of MD and
Sarah Morari of MN. YES Development Director Oksana Pavliouk is looking
for 8 other RPCVs nation wide who would enjoy a flexible, part-time job
from home that combines a little compensation with the chance to work with
some amazing teenagers in the U.S. for a school year.

If interested or for more information, contact Oksana Pavliouk at
mailto:oxanap@pax.org
