Dear GlobalEdNews subscribers,

I hope you have all had a happy and healthy holiday season. At this time,
many of you may be looking for ways to discuss the disaster in Asia in
your classrooms or coordinate projects to raise funds for the relief
effort. Global TeachNet's "Kids Around the World" website now features a
page dedicated to the tsunami disaster. On this page, you can find
information geared towards students about what happened and what is being
done to help in the aftermath. The page also contains links for students
to websites about how children have taken action and how they too can be a
part of the relief effort. In addition, you'll find links connecting
teachers with information on the effect the earthquakes and tsunamis have
had on children and resources for teaching about them. We hope this can
help you and your students discuss the crisis and find ways to help. To
visit the webpage, please go to

1. Student Challenge: NetAid Asian Earthquake Crisis Fund

Posted by request:

Upon returning to school in 2005, many students in the United States are
asking what they can do to help victims of the recent earthquake and
tsunamis in South and Southeast Asia. NetAid invites students and teachers
to make a difference through the NetAid Asian Earthquake Crisis Fund.

Over the next several weeks, NetAid is challenging students and educators
in the United States to come up with creative ways to fundraise in
response to this humanitarian crisis. Funds raised by U.S. students will
be used to help students in South and Southeast Asia affected by the
disaster. NetAid will feature students, educators and schools
participating in this challenge on its website.

To make this activity a meaningful educational experience, NetAid has
prepared several lesson plans for educators which discuss global poverty
and the role of Americans in responding to this humanitarian crisis.
for more information on how your school can take action.

No doubt you have seen in the news that the scope of this disaster's
devastation continues to grow. Your support remains vital. For updates
on how such support is already being put to use, or to encourage others to
donate, please visit http://www.netaid.org.
