International's Northeast Regional Conference on November 13 & 14, 2004 in

WORKSHOPS ON HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION
Boston, November 13, 2004

This workshop takes place during the Amnesty International Northeast
Regional Conference on November 13 & 14, 2004 at Boston University.

INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION (11:45 - 1:15)

Join an expert in human rights education by participating in an engaging
human rights lesson that can be used with youth.We will be introduced to
the following topics and related resources: - international human rights
standards - definitions of human rights education - models and pedagogies
associated with HRE - international policies related to human rights
education.


INTEGRATING CURRENT HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES INTO THE CLASSROOM (3:45-5:15)

A number of contemporary issues, such as the Sudan crisis, have human
rights dimensions that can be brought into the classroom. We will discuss
some of these topics and ways for integrating them into our teaching.
Resources will be provided and suggested.

Facilitator: Felisa Tibbitts, director and co-founder of Human Rights
Education Associates (HREA).  In the first half of the 1990s, she worked
with Ministries of Education and human rights NGOs in developing new human
rights curricula in the post-totalitarian societies of Central and Eastern
Europe. Ms. Tibbitts has helped to support local capacity building through
national programs in Romania, Albania, Estonia, Ukraine, Croatia, Morocco
and China. Ms. Tibbitts has developed several practical manuals related to
evaluation, street law-type program development, and curriculum, which can
be found on the HREA website (www.hrea.org).

Tuition, fee, lodging: There is a $25 registration fee for the Amnesty
International Northeast Regional Conference; however, all workshops are
