Inter-American seminar on education for democracy

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Center for Civic
Education will hold the Inter-American Seminar on Education for Democracy
in Washington, D.C., from September 20 to 23.

The seminar will examine education-for-democracy initiatives coordinated
by the OAS and by other prominent institutions in both the formal and
non-formal educational sectors. It will bring together high-level
education authorities, representatives of international organizations and
other institutions, as well as experts on civic education from more than
14 countries of the hemisphere and seven U.S. states.

The event is also the annual seminar for the Civitas Latin America: A
Civic Education Exchange Program sponsored by the Center for Civic
Education, a U.S. nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization
dedicated to fostering democratic values and principles through civic
education and international exchange.

The event, which is open to the public, opens today at 6 p.m. at OAS
headquarters, located at 17th St. and Constitution Ave. NW. Sessions will
continue at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the OAS building at
1889 F St. NW. There will be simultaneous interpretation in English and
Spanish.

SEMINARIO INTERAMERICANO SOBRE EDUCACION PARA LA DEMOCRACIA

La Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA) y el Centro para la
Educación Cívica realizarán el Seminario Interamericano sobre Educación
para la Democracia en la ciudad de Washington, del 20 al 23 de septiembre.

El seminario examinará las iniciativas en educación para la democracia
coordinadas por la OEA y por otras instituciones destacadas en áreas de
educación formal y no- formal. Participarán autoridades educativas de alto
nivel, representantes de organizaciones internacionales y otras
instituciones, además de expertos en educación cívica de más de catorce
países del hemisferio y siete estados de los Estados Unidos.

El evento también es el seminario anual de Civitas Latin America: A Civic
Education Exchange Program patrocinado por el Centro para la Educación
Cívica (Center for Civic Education), una organización estadounidense no
gubernamental, no partidaria y dedicada a la promoción de valores y
principios democráticos por medio de la educación cívica y el intercambio
internacional.

El evento, que estará abierto al público, se inaugura hoy a las 6:00 p.m.
en la sede de la OEA, localizada en la 17th St. & Constitution Ave. N.W.
Las sesiones continuarán el martes, miércoles y jueves en el edificio de
la OEA ubicado en 1889 F St. N.W. Habrá interpretación simultánea en
ingles y español.
