NetAid Research Recommends Focusing on Youth to Build Domestic Support for International Development From: NetAid Press Release, June 23, 2004 (full text at http://www.netaid.org/press/press_article_22.pt) The non-profit organization NetAid today issued a report recommending that efforts to increase American support for international development focus on young people. The report, entitled "Learning for Change: Strategies to Build a Domestic Constituency for International Development", examines how to increase public support in order to secure American leadership in the fight against global poverty. It concludes that this can best be accomplished through large-scale and innovative education programs for young people. NetAid's research, which was supported by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, was conducted between August 2003 and January 2004, and included interviews with over 50 experts on public engagement in international development and related issues. Citing successful European models, "Learning for Change" proposes youth-focused programs that are comprehensive, educational and perspective-changing.
