New UN High Commissioner for Human Rights - Louise Arbour

Dear Friends,

I had the opportunity to meet Louise Arbour, the new UN High Commissioner
for Human Rights, at the African Canadian Symposium for Leadership in
Development organized by the Coady international Institute at St. Francis
Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada, last Summer 2003.

I listened to her inspirational speech about peace building and her role
in bringing justice. I cherished the opportunity to listen to Madam
Arbour's words as she spoke on the role of youth leaders in addressing
global issues such as peacebuilding. She also spoke about the way forward
with regards the current International Criminal Tribunals in Sierra Leone.

This is a judicious decision, and will help in the international human
rights efforts to bring one so experienced in this field, one who has the
passion and courage to keep the flag of human rights high on the
international flag pole.

Peace,

Andrew.
