Building Partnerships, Creating Access: A National
Conference Dedicated to Ending Violence Against Women with Disabilities and
Women Who are Deaf
August 31 - September 2, 2004

Women with disabilities are two times more likely to be assaulted in their
lifetime than women without disabilities

This conference will provide an in-depth look at issues of violence against
women and its intersection with people with disabilities. We are seeking to
provide a national forum for exploring issues that are often left unexplored
in the violence against women and disability movements. We encourage
attendance from rape crisis centers, domestic violence programs, law
enforcement, victim service agencies and advocates. Through workshops, panel
discussions and critical conversations, participants will gain knowledge and
techniques to provide services that are not only physically accessible but
programmatically and attitudinally accessible for persons who are Deaf or
who have disabilities. Participants from disability service organizations
and their advocates will learn about providing services to consumers who are
victims/survivors of rape, sexual assault, abuse and stalking.
Additionally, participants will learn from experts and leaders in the field
about abuse, assault and prevention techniques for individuals with
disabilities.

In addition to the beginning and intermediate programming on a variety of
violence against women, disability and deaf specific topic areas, this
conference will provide prime networking opportunities and help us all work
towards building a strong partnership that will create service access to
services for all people. Please join us for this exciting event!
