Greetings from San Francisco :
Internation Human Rights Scholarship(s) Inquiry Background:
I have been offered a half tuition scholarship at a renowned International
Human Rights Law program in the UK. Attorneys/judges from many countries
will be represented (begins mid -September 2004), and only 30 applicant
accepted (six month program with an international human rights
internship). Thus far, my career in public sector law has largely focused
on the protection of the civil rights and due process for indigent
refugees and immigrants as it relates to access to Federal and State
social and health services programs. I hope to do the internship in human
rights at an CBO or NGO and thereafter return to US to work in
international human rights.
Current Financial Situation:
My ability to attend is dependant upon additional scholarships/grants. I
am knee deep in search of other sources of funding for this International
Human Rights program. Even with savings, I underestimated the total costs.
The program is for 6 months plus an Internship. Federal student loans are
not an option I would pursue and employer assistance isn't viable (work
for non-profit). The majority of the scholarships and grants I have
reviewed are either given to post graduate students beginning their career
(not applicable) or to institutions,or CBO's/NGO's rather then
individuals.
Any leads to resource(s), foundation, or organizations leads regarding
Internation Human Rights financial assistance? My CV, the offer etc are
available if requested. It is a wonderful opportunity but I have "miles
to go before I sleep" if this is to become a reality.
Thank you very much in advance for your attention to this inquiry.
Looking Forward,
EJT
