And to the memory of Mr Sergio Vieira de Mello, United Nations High

Sergio Vieira de Mello

The City of Nantes, at the initiative and with the support of UNESCO, in
cooperation with the French National Commission for UNESCO and supported
by the Office of the High Commissioners for Human Rights and the
International Labor Office, is organizing the World Forum on Human Rights.

The Forum will bring together on an equal footing all the actors involved
in the promotion and protection of human rights. It will contribute to
strengthen interaction between research and decision-making, with the aim
to consolidate a global movement for human rights. By gathering all those
who are working in research (universities and specialized centers), in
policy-making (States and intergovernmental organizations), and in
advocacy and action (non-governmental organizations and media), the Forum
will offer a platform for joint action for the world of science and
research and the world of policy and action. The Forum will contribute to
generate ideas, exchange and advance knowledge and to use this knowledge
to address challenges and threats to human rights in the 21st century.

The main topics of the Forum are:

*	Terrorism and human rights
*	Globalization and the struggle against all forms of discrimination and
exclusion
*	Poverty as a violation of human rights

Keynote speakers are:

Bertrand Ramcharan, Acting High Commissioner for Human Rights
Alvaro Gil Robles, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe
Robert Badinter, Senator and Former President of the French Constitutional
Council
Paul Hoffman, International Executive Committee of Amnesty International
Pierre Sané, Assistant Director General of UNESCO for Social and Human
Sciences
