Dear human rights educators: It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Amnesty International School for Human Rights was selected as one of the new small schools to open in New York City in the coming Fall in Brooklyn. As part of the New Visions for Public Schools initiative, our 6-12 public school will be organized around human rights principles, and teaching will happen through human rights and about human rights in all subjects and in all areas of the school life. And on top of it all it will be a small school, well, small by NYC standards - 525 students after full implementation! Needless to say we are incredibly excited about this new opportunity to radically increase the exposure of human rights education in the public education realm, and to be able to work long-term with students and teachers towards the goals of justice, equality, respect, dignity, and community building. Please expect to hear more about the school in the near future!
