Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights is currently hiring two full-time
positions: B.I.A.S. Project Coordinator and Administrative
Assistant/Assistant to the Executive Director. Please see the

B.I.A.S. PROJECT COORDINATOR JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights
ABOUT MINNESOTA ADVOCATES: Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights is a
volunteer-based non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and
protection of internationally recognized human rights. Minnesota
Advocates documents human rights abuses, provides direct legal
representation, and educates on human rights issues, particularly
pertaining to women, children, and immigrants and refugees.
ABOUT EDUCATION PROGRAM: The Human Rights Education Program of Minnesota
Advocates brings the principles of international human rights and
tolerance to K-12 classrooms and the general community, and works to
combat racism and anti-immigrant sentiment in the Upper Midwest. This
work challenges youth, professionals, and their communities to
understand and appreciate common human values, and encourages them to
apply international standards to their own lives. The B.I.A.S.
(Building Immigrant Awareness and Support) Project of our education
program works to combat anti-immigrant sentiment by providing accurate
information about the numbers and impact of immigrants on the U.S.
economy, labor market, and society. The Project confronts
misinformation and stereotypes in an educational, media and public
affairs campaign.
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: The B.I.A.S. Project Coordinator is
responsible for responding to requests for resources, learning
materials, and training about refugee and immigrant issues, both
generally in the United State in specifically in Minnesota. The
coordinator will also be responsible for our post-September 11th
education initiatives, our volunteer speakers' bureau, and other tasks
and duties as assigned by the Education Program Director.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Education work
* Design and conduct presentations and workshops on refugee
and immigrant issues
* Organize and publicize community education events
* Promote and distribute project publications
* Create new learning materials about immigrant issues for
website, especially pertaining to post-September 11th bias and
discrimination
* Develop new education initiatives and partnerships as
assigned by the Education Program Director
Outreach and advocacy work
* Represent organization at relevant seminars, workshops and
conferences at local and national levels
* Coordinate and track Minnesota Advocates community outreach
activities
* Supervise interns and volunteers in research on immigration
issues
* Participate in advocacy efforts related to legislation
affecting immigrants
* Assist with media requests and participate in on-line
listserves
Administrative work
* Develop program goals and strategy in collaboration with
other Education Program staff
* Write grant proposals and conduct other fundraising
activities
* Develop evaluation and assessment materials for B.I.A.S.
Project education initiatives
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: The ideal candidate will have B.A./B.S. or advanced
degree in education, anthropology, international relations or law,
cultural studies, or related subject. Experience with refugee
communities and/or immigrant communities is strongly preferred.
Relevant work in the non-profit sector is desired, as well as experience
in volunteer management and/or teaching. Candidates must possess solid
organizational and communication skills; have familiarity with Microsoft
Office applications; be comfortable working with diverse groups of
people; and have an interest in human rights, social justice and
international affairs.
TERMS: Full-time; excellent vacation and insurance benefits. Salary is

TITLE: Administrative Assistant /Assistant to the Executive
Director
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Administrative Assistant is responsible
for providing administrative support for Minnesota Advocates' Executive
Director.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Executive Director Support:
* Maintain files and written correspondence
* Assist with scheduling and travel arrangements
* Produce correspondence and reports
* Respond to requests for information and literature
* Help facilitate board and staff communication
* Assist with event planning
* Other short- and long-term projects as requested
General Office Support:
* Serve as back up for Administrative Assistant/Receptionist
* Answer telephones when necessary (the office has an
automated attendant phone system)
* Other general duties as requested
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: Proficiency in Microsoft office applications,
Publisher and database management software. The ideal candidate will be
well-organized and detail-oriented; possess solid organizational and
communication skills; be responsive to staff needs; be comfortable
working with diverse groups of people; have experience working in a
non-profit environment; and have an interest in human rights, social
justice and international affairs.
