[hr-education-na] 2nd Annual Curriculum Development Contest in HRE (California)

Hi,

     In the past several years, as an outgrowth of contacts and
collaborations with colleagues in Chile, we at ISTEP have been focusing
more and more of our attention on human rights education at the 7th-12
grade levels.  We are now in the middle of our 2nd Annual Curriculum
Development Contest in Human Rights Education, open to 7th-12th grade
teachers throughout Southern California (San Diego, Imperial, Orange, Los
Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties) from any and all
disciplines.  Information and guidelines for the contest can be obtained

      As we intend to enlarge our programming in this area, we are trying
to construct a mailing list of 7th-12th grade teachers/educators who have
a strong interest in and commitment to human rights education in the
classroom.  We are well aware of the difficulties of incorporating human
rights into the California curriculum under the current regime of state
standards and testing, and are exploring opportunities for working
collaboratively with secondary educators in the region to find, develop
and share successful strategies for doing so.
