As UNESCO Chair-holder in Comparative Human Rights and the first UNESCO Chair in Human Rights in the United States of America, I am interested in coordinating a coalition of human rights groups in New England so that we can maximize our impact and enhance our capacity. I am therefore writing to invite individuals/organizations involved in human rights advocacy and education, to share ideas as to how we can best work together to advance the causes of human rights, social justice, international peace, security, and understanding. I believe that this is an auspicious time for us to embark on such an initiative, given the United States' recent decision to re-join UNESCO after an absence of many years. As you may be aware, UNESCO encourages collaboration among institutions for the promotion of education, research, and outreach on human rights. Among the issues I would like us to reflect upon are how to share information and expertise; embark on joint initiatives; pool our resources; and advocate for the US to play a positive role in the United Nations in general and in UNESCO in particular. If interested in becoming involved in such a coalition, please contact Nana Amos in my office at 860.486.3054 or send e-mail to <nana.amos@uconn.edu>. I look forward to collaborating with your organization.
