COMPARATIVE HUMAN RIGHTS CONFERENCE
Theme:  Artists in the Cause of Human Rights

University of Connecticut, Storrs

The fourth annual comparative human rights conference, organized by the
UNESCO Chair in Comparative Human Rights at the University of Connecticut,
will reflect on the role artists around the world have played in
mobilizing people for the causes of freedom, self-realization, and human
dignity. Presenters at the conference will reflect on the role they have
played in promoting social justice, and will suggest ways in which the
arts can transcend the barriers of prejudice and translate the ideals of
human rights into reality, in order to make a positive difference in
people's lives.

Keynote Address by Hugh Masekela, internationally renowned trumpeter and
anti-apartheid activist.
Other conference presenters include: The Thelonious Monk Institute of
Jazz, Arturo Arias, Hugh Blumenfeld, Conny Braam, Patricia Thrane.

Conference will culminate with an 8:00 p.m. concert by Hugh Masekela and
the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz

Venue: Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts, University of Connecticut
