EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, HUMAN RIGHTS CENTER, COEUR D ALENE, IDAHO

The Human Rights Education Institute (HREI) of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho was
formed in 1998 as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization to serve as the
educational arm of the Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations
(http://www.idahohumanrights.org).

The Institute is seeking an Executive Director with the leadership
skills and abilities needed to create local, state, regional, national
and international support for a new Human Rights Center.   This key
position will insure that the Center's vision statement is realized:

The Human Rights Center is an attractive, welcoming place where people
discover greater ways of understanding human rights, and learn about the
importance of living in a diverse community. The Center is a focal point
for understanding cultural and religious differences in the world.  It
is a place where people want to visit and reflect upon lessons from the
past in order to make better choices in the future. It is uniquely
equipped so that visitors feel enveloped by the dreams of, commitment
to, and passion for choosing democracy. The experiences people have at
the Center give them a renewed sense of hope and promise to build
communities that embrace and celebrate human differences.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

Promote human rights and the Center's vision, mission and values by
effectively creating an understanding that human rights are a
fundamental component of democracy.

*          Establishes collaborative and strategic partnerships with
local, state and national partners in human rights, education, business
and community development.

*          Creates the conditions that enable the Center's team, both
paid and volunteer staff, to perform at their best (e.g., setting clear
direction, providing appropriate structure, getting the right people,
empowering and encouraging performance.)

Establish, promote and evaluate a continuum of innovative human rights,
multicultural, and diversity education programs that meet student and
educator needs.

*          Fosters a focus on continuous improvement by encouraging new
ideas from others. Generates and maintains a creative and
change-oriented environment among or with board members, staff and
volunteers which leads to new and effective program ideas.

*          Develops effective community relations strategies including
public speaking events, generating brochures, annual reports, resource
catalogs and other material to effectively target and expand the
Center's audience.

Create long term financial sustainability by responsibly planning and
managing center resources and services.

*          Ensure a systematic process is used to procure funds and
grants to help build the center and sustain the Center's programs.


The Ideal Candidate will have:

*          A minimum of 10 years of experience in the human rights.
*          A minimum of 5 years of management experience in a non-profit
organization including effective board relations, overall governance,
resource development, people management and creating community support.
*          B.A./ B.S. in a related field required.
*          Demonstrated knowledge of relevant themes, debates and issues
associated with human rights.
*          Demonstrated ability to assess and evaluate the effectiveness
of professional educational programming.
*          Excellent financial management and fund-raising skills.
*          Excellent communication skills - verbal & written- including
public speaking.
*          An obvious ability to easily establish rapport with people
from varied cultural backgrounds and interests.
*          A demonstrated history of building trusting relationships.


Salary and Benefits:   A competitive salary and benefit package is
currently being developed.
