Beyond September 11

Dear Friends:

On this anniversary of the tragedy of September 11, 2001, I would like to
once again share the following on-line curricular resource developed for
the first anniversary that is equally relevant today, especially as we
consider the role of education in times of crisis.

THE BEYOND 9/11 PROJECT

In response to the September 11 atrocities and their aftermath, The Beyond
September 11 Project was formed to sustain a desire to learn and encourage
an on-going exploration of the issues, especially to place them in a
historical and global context. This resource designed for educators and
their students provides an opportunity to examine the relationship between
identity and culture, foster constructive dialogue, and build a safe,
secure, and reflective environment in order for all to learn and develop.
The Beyond September 11 Project is a consortium of representatives of five
national educational organizations:
- Facing History and Ourselves
- Global Source Education
- The Stanley Foundation
- The University of Minnesota Human Rights Center
- World Affairs Council of San Francisco, Education Department

The curricular activities created by the Beyond September 11 Project include:
"Human Rights through the Art of Storytelling"
"Identity and Society"
"Media Literacy: the Challenge of 9/11"
"Remembering 9/11/02: Ideas for the School Community"
"Taking the Human Rights Temperature of Your School"

We encourage you to visit The Beyond September 11 Project on-line at:
