Award opportunity: Goldman Sachs Foundation Prizes for Excellence in International Education

Dear List members:

The Asia society has announced the creation of The Goldman Sachs Foundation
Prizes for Excellence in International Education, which will award five $
25,000 prizes annually to schools, higher education, states, and
media/technology organizations that are working to "put the world into
world-class education."

There is an alarming gap between the growing importance of other world
regions to our nation's economic prosperity and national security, and most
young Americans' lack of knowledge of the world outside our borders. In
response to the importance of international knowledge and skills to the
nation's future, The Goldman Sachs Foundation together with Asia Society
are pleased to announce the creation of five new $ 25,000 prizes to support
creative and practical models of international education in action. The
prizes will recognize schools, elementary, middle and secondary, that
engage students in learning about other world regions; states that are
actively promoting teaching and learning about other world regions,
cultures and languages in their education system; colleges and universities
that have strong international content in their teacher preparation or K-12
outreach programs; and media or technology companies and organizations that
are making international content and information available to students and
teachers in stimulating new ways.

The purpose of the awards program is to:

* Identify and recognize the best of the growing number of innovative
examples of international education for K-12 students and teachers and
those who are working to scale these models up; and

* Document and publicize the most creative and practical models that are
worthy of broader visibility and replication.
