Dear List members, On behalf of HREA, I would like to welcome you to the North American Human Rights Education listserv! The "hr-education-na" listserv is the latest in a series of regional listservs HREA has developed to enable information exchange and networking between individuals working in HRE in specific areas of the world. This list will allow members based in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. to focus on topics that have particular relevance there (e.g. post-September 11 discussion topics, local course announcements for teachers, region-specific curriculum projects, etc). Those of you who subscribe to the Global Human Rights Educatio List know that its growth over the last four years has been remarkable. From a beginning base of just over 300 subscribers, the Global HRE list is now used as an information exchange, networking tool and forum for ideas by over 3000 members worldwide, and the number continues to grow daily. This growth has resulted in high competition for "on-line time", as we adhere to the List's principle of posting a small number of quality messages rather than flooding mailboxes. Regional lists such as the North American HRE List will enable us to maintain a diverse balance of worldwide participation on the Global HRE List, while giving regional special interests and issues their appropriate audience. In this message I will briefly review some administrative information. To send a message to the list, please send it to the following e-mail address: <hr-education-na@hrea.org>. Note that some time might go by before your message is distributed to all subscribers to the list, since this is a moderated list, which means all messages have to be read by one of our team members. As with the Global HRE List, messages posted to the list will be archived on HREA's web site. The working language of this list will be English, but recognizing that Canada, Mexico and the United States have a substantial population of French and Spanish speakers, we encourage submission of messages in either of these languages as well. When possible, we will try to translate particularly relevant messages received in French or Spanish into English. If you know of colleagues who do not know about the list yet, please forward the information about the North American HRE List to them. In order to subscribe they should send an e-mail message to: Majordomo@hrea.org Leave the subject line empty and write in the body of the message: subscribe hr-education-na If you have problems subscribing or unsubscribing, please send a message to <owner-hr-education-na@hrea.org> to reach a 'real' person who will assist you. We look forward to a vibrant exchange of information and experiences and hope that this medium will serve as an additional resource for all those working in the human rights and education field on the North American continent.
