Global Directory of Human Rights Educators

The aim of the Global Directory of Human Rights Educators is to provide a
resource for individuals, communities and organisations that are looking
for assistance with their activities or want to exchange information.
Through the directory one can identify trainers or curriculum developers,
explore potential partnerships, or share your interest in certain thematic
areas. Currently more than 1,000 educators from over 130 countries have
registered in the directory. In order to protect the privacy of those
listed the directory is password protected and will only be accessible to
those who have registered. You can register and access the directory at:

* 38th Annual Study Session on Human Rights

Focus: The theme of the 38th Annual Study Session is "Population
Movement and Human Rights". The session's program is composed of:
introductory lectures on the foundation, history and anthropology of
human rights; given in French and English; thematic courses, whose
topics vary each year, are in either French or English; fundamental
courses on international human rights protection systems,
humanitarian law, criminal law and protection of refugees. They are
offered in parallel in French, English, Spanish and Arabic.

* Human Rights Monitoring and Reporting in Developing Countries

reporting cycle, going from the initial steps of collecting data,
through the different stages of a reporting process, and to the
question of how to communicate the information in human rights
reports. The course will focus mostly on practical skills and

field of human rights education (HRE), including presentations of
programming approaches, teaching and learning resources, and related

skills to further their organisation's advocacy efforts. Participants
might be expected to apply these skills within formal education
settings, for staff development within their own organisations, and
for outreach and advocacy.

* Introduction to the European System of Human Rights Protection and
Promotion
Date: 5 September-27 November 2007 
Level: (under)graduate, post-graduate, professional 
Focus: This distance learning course provides participants with
practical guidance on how to protect human rights through the
European human rights system, and specifically the institutions and
treaties of the Council of Europe. Participants will be introduced to
the main European human rights conventions and jurisprudence,
primarily as developed through the European Court of Human Rights.
The course addresses European human rights standards as they apply to
civil and political rights, economic, social and cultural rights, and
the rights of minorities. Case studies on the freedom of expression,
homosexuality, violence against women, protection of the
mentally-ill, prisoner's rights, and the rights of refugees and
internally displaced persons, will deepen participants' understanding
of the European human rights standards and machinery.

* Making Governance Gender Responsive

be introduced to the fundamentals of research design, qualitative and
quantitative methods, data collection and applications for improving
programming. Learners will participate in exercises to develop basic

also become better "consumers" of such studies. Participants are
encouraged to come to the course with a research or evaluation
project idea that can be developed within the course.
