Medan, 19 December 2003 Dear all Pusat Kajian dan Perlindungan Anak (PKPA)/Center for Study and Child Protection will held a Southeast Conference on Trafficking in Children for Sexual Purposes in Medan, North Sumatera on 28 to 30 March 2004. The conference will be attended by about 350 participants from within and outside Indonesia, especially from Southeast Asian countries. The goals of the Conference include identifying the forms, leading factors and magnitude of problem of the trafficking in children in Southeast Asian countries, sharing best practices conducted by NGOs, GOs and other related parties in combating trafficking in children for sexual purposes in Southeast Asia, identifying regional potencies which can be used to combat the trafficking in children in Southeast Asia and formulating possible forms of partnership cooperation to be taken by NGOs and GOs in Southeast Asian countries in combating the trafficking in children for the period of five years following the conference. For the purpose of the conference we would like to invite you to participate in the Conference. If you apply to be one of speakers, please indicate which of the following topics of your interest: 1. Existing legal systems on trafficking in children for prostitution and their implementation in ASEAN countries 2. What has been done by the governments and NGOs in ten ASEAN countries 3. Campaign, Advocacy and Rehabilitation Programs 4. Personnel and institutional capacity building in dealing with issues of trafficking in children for prostitution 5. Child participation to combat child trafficking The Committee provides scholarship for selected speakers from Southeast Asia. This includes round-trip tickets to Indonesia, accommodation during the Conference, and the Conference kits. For this purpose, a would-be speaker is required to write an abstract of the paper to be presented. The abstract shall be in English, one page only, single space, with times new roman font, size 12. The deadline of the abstract is 30 January 2004, and the announcement of selected funded speakers will be made before 16 February 2004. Speakers with good papers but cannot be funded for the limited available resource will be encouraged to present their papers in the conference. If requested, the Committee will provide formal letters of invitation and recommendation which the speakers or participants may need in seeking financial supports for their attendance in the Conference. An applicant who wishes to participate in the Conference NOT as a speaker is charged with the following: 1. Registration fee, IDR 850,000,- or US $ 102,409. This is to cover papers, bag, pen, block note, T-Shirt, cap, certificate, souvenir, lunch and snack during the conference. 2. Participants who choose to stay in Tiara Hotel, the Conference venue, are charged IDR. 2.350,000,- or US $ 283,432. The charge includes the registration fee, papers, bag, pen, block note, T-Shirt, cap, certificate, lunch and three day staying in a superior class single bedroom The deadline for the letter of confirmation is 15 March 2004 (the letter may be sent via facs, email or post).
