[child-rights] Global March Against Child Labour calls the concerned NGOs to take action on "Triangular Paradigm"

Triangular paradigm on Child Rights' Protection
------------------------------------------------

The triangular paradigm of development for children at the country level
involves three major issues affecting the future of the world, in
particular our children. They are: child labour, poverty and illiteracy.

Disjoint between the three issues

There is a clear evidence of discord between child labour, poverty
alleviation and education. On several occasions it had been seen that
the ministries responsible for the elimination of child labour have
little or no connection with achieving quality education for country's
children and vice versa. So in most of the schemes and plans on
education, the component of elimination of child labour was missing. The
scenario is a 'top to bottom' phenomenon, starting with
inter-governmental organisations, to local self-governance and even
NGOs. Amongst many, the three processes in the development arena are
definitely significant.

Linking the three issues

A strong linkage between the three issues is extremely important to
address the problems effectively and hence there is the need to form the
triangular development paradigm.

It is a well-researched truth that there exists a vicious cycle of
poverty and child labour as well as child labour and illiteracy. Each of
these combinations acts as a cause and consequence effect simultaneously.

Global March's role in triangular paradigm

Many of our Global March partners are furthering this process of
triangular relation at the local level. With these objectives, Global
March has taken an initiative in collaboration with the key leadership
of ILO, UNESCO, UNICEF and World Bank.

Effective action

All agencies, governments and ministries should have a better
understanding of the push-pull factors that link child labour, education
and poverty and this should be done through systematic approaches by
using a wide range of models and schemes.
