month. It details upcoming events for the following three months, including 
workshops, conferences, courses and other events. The Events Calendar is 
also published three times per year in the CRIN Newsletter, and updated

- KENYA ALLIANCE FOR ADVANCEMENT OF CHILDREN: Child Poverty in Kenya 
[conference]

Date: 15 - 16 April, 2002
Location: Langata, Nairobi

Child poverty ranked highest in Kenya among the 10 imperatives of the Say 
Yes Campaign. The keynote address for the conference will be made by the 
Chairman of the Poverty Eradication Commission in Kenya. Other speakers 
will include staff from the Ministry of Finance and Planning, UNICEF and 
the private sector and over 60 children?s agencies and 30 children will 
participate in the conference. Awards will also be given to winners of the 
Essay and Poster Competition launched by KAACR last year on the topic: My 
Kind of President. Twelve Children will receive awards.

- ASIAN YOUTH COUNCIL: Workshop on ICT Infocomm Technology [workshop]

Date: 16-20 April, 2002
Location: Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia

This workshop, which is co-organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) 
and the Asian Youth Council (AYC), aims to train youth organisation 
managers and youth workers to organise online-based information. It will 
include training on the benefits and effects of the Internet, Intranet and 
Electronic mail; will educate participants on the social and ethical 
aspects of Information and Communication Technology (ICT); will enforce 
online networking of regional and international youth entities; and will 
link-up the national organisations with international government 
organisations (GOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

- CHILDREN'S RIGHTS ALLIANCE: Ending Child Poverty: Making the Commitment 
Real [conference]

Date: 25 April, 2002
Location: Dublin, Ireland

The conference is being organised by the Children's Rights Alliance in 
conjunction with its partner organisations in the Open Your Eyes to Child 
Poverty Initiative. Policy makers, advocates, researchers and all those 
seeking the elimination of child poverty in Ireland are invited to attend.

The conference will see the launch of a new research into the causes of 
widely varying rates of child poverty in rich nations at a comparable stage 
of economic development. It will examine what we can learn about ending 
child poverty from the experiences of other European countries, look at 
actions and policies required to implement the commitment to eliminate 
child poverty made by the Government in the revised National Anti-Poverty 
Strategy and the National Children?s Strategy, and publish and discuss new 
research on child well-being indicators.

- ARMENIA: Armenian National Plan of Action for Children: National 
Conference on the Armenian NPA Development [conference]

Date: 26-27 April, 2002
Location: Yerevan, Armenia

This conference will be held within the framework of the Armenian National 
Plan of Action for Children, established in accordance with the Decision of 
the Prime Minister of Armenia (June 21, 2001) and in connection with the 
forthcoming UN Special Session on Children. Elaboration and implementation 
of the National Plan of Action (NPA) for Children is one of the priorities 
to be carried out by the Government. The NPA sets goals for ten years for 
the protection of the rights of the child, outlines principal strategies 
for achieving these goals, and establishes indicators and mechanisms for 
monitoring progress toward them. The conference agenda will reflect the 
main NPA goals, identified by the NPA experts

The NPA addresses existing laws, human rights-related issues, operation of 
existing social safety nets and health, education issues and the problems 
of children living in especially difficult physical and social 
circumstances. Recommendations and programmes of action for each issue will 
be provided by the NPA All interested parties are invited to participate in 
the conference. Please note that the English version of the NPA will be 
available on the Internet after the middle of April 2002

- THE EUROPEAN FORUM FOR CHILD WELFARE: Tolerance is not Enough? 
Discrimination Against Children [conference]

Date: 22 - 24 May, 2002
Location: Limassol, Cyprus.

This event is hosted by the Pancyprian Coordinating Committee for the 
Protection and Welfare of Children. The theme of the conference is 
discrimination against children, both in general as a population group 
vis-à-vis adults and in terms of discrimination of particular groups of 
children such as those from poor families or rural communities.

The main conference language will be English, although simultaneous 
interpretation into French and Greek will be provided. This conference will 
be of interest to anyone working with children but of special interest to 
those working in the Child Care System, the Health Care System, the 
Education system and Social Services as well as to policy-makers.

- THE MEDICAL NETWORK FOR SOCIAL RECONSTRUCTION IN FORMER YUGOSLAVIA: 
Community, Health and Human Security [conference]

The Medical Network for Social Reconstruction in the Former Yugoslavia is a 
network of health care professionals drawn from all parts of the former 
Yugoslavia.  It is dedicated to facilitating healing and recovery processes 
that promote individual and community health and empowerment and the 
prevention of future conflicts in its region.

This conference is organised in conjunction with the Mediterranean Health 
Centre, Igalo Institute and the European Affiliates of International 
Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. Some of the issues that will 
be discussed at the conference are the importance of human security for 
children, social and psychological well-being for children and the effects 
of war and terrorism on communities.

Currently we are particularly interested in events taking place between 
July and October 2002. In addition to being included on the website, this 
information will be disseminated through a special CRINMAIL in April and
