Description This handbook is intended for technical teachers at vocational schools. It features a number of frequently asked questions (Chapter 1) on human rights, their development and their importance in today’s life as well as on the question “Teaching technology and human rights - why is this important?”. Chapter 2 explains the idea and also gives an overview of fundamentals for ethical education in human rights and shows perspectives of human rights and technology in technical vocational schools. Chapter 3 includes a comprehensive curriculum analyses on human rights contents in the curricula in Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. Chapter 4 (“Shadow Curriculum”) provides teachers with the methodology for linking technology with human rights issues. Chapter 5 describes the concept of “Human Rights Ambassadors” as multipliers and experts on human rights in European vocational technical schools. Chapter 6 contains sample teaching units showing new approaches on how to identify existing and how to initiate new “learning situations” in technical instruction. The Annex includes useful literature and websites on human rights as well as a list of websites of NGOs and associated organisations and institutions for further reference, and the full text of the European Convention for Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
