HREA is developing a social network for alumni (AlumNet) of its online human rights courses. Individuals who take HREA courses are human rights defenders and professionals from a variety of backgrounds and located around the world. "AlumNet" will serve to connect these professionals to each other and keep them in touch with HREA.
Responsibilities: The Intern/volunteer AlumNet is responsible to:
- beta test the network pre-launch
- work with HREA's technical staff to ensure that network is properly configured and software customizations function correctly
- plan and coordinate the launch of the network
- research, prepare and post human rights information relevant to alumni;
- regularly (cross-) post human rights information relevant to alumni from other HREA information services (HREA website and listservs, Facebook, Twitter);
- facilitate and summarize discussions on human rights topics;
- prepare quarterly newsletter for alumni;
- provide technical support to alumni who have problems logging into the site.
Knowledge/Skills: The following skills are necessary to perform the duties of the Intern Facilitator AlumNet:
- familiar with human rights framework;
- experience using social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter);
- excellent research skills;
- excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills;
- ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks;
- excellent communication skills;
- ability to work well independently.
When
Starting as early as 1 February 2011, but we are flexible about start date.
Hours required
Approximately 16 hours per week.

This internship is unpaid; however a transportation subsidy is available if necessary. (We are based in Central Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts and reachable by subway/commuter rail.)
