Amsterdam, 4 February 2008 -- The Final Report of the European Regional Meeting on the World Programme for Human Rights Education which took place in Strasbourg, France on 5-6 November 2007, is now available online.
The report highlights key outcomes of this highly interactive gathering, which was attended by over 150 participants from more than 50 countries. The Executive Summary of the report confirms a growing awareness of and support for human rights education from policymakers, civil society organisations and professionals in both formal and non-formal education. Moreover there is an increasing demand for seeking and developing expertise in human rights education. "This awareness needs to be developed into practical strategies that can be used locally, but coordinated and supported nationally", concludes Felisa Tibbitts, Executive Director of HREA, who was General Rapporteur of the meeting.
This meeting was organised by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNESCO and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR/OSCE).
