New partnership will bring human rights to more classrooms in the United States

HREA has joined forces with Cambridge-based Educators for Social Responsibility (ESR) to promote human rights education in North American schools. "The partnership with ESR will complement our work in human rights education and service learning nationwide," said HREA Executive Director Felisa Tibbitts.

ESR is a national non-profit organisation that was founded in 1982. Their mission is to make teaching social responsibility a core practice in education so that young people develop the convictions and skills to shape a safe, sustainable, democratic, and just world. ESR is a national leader in educational reform. Their work spans the fields of social and emotional learning, character education, conflict resolution, diversity education, civic engagement, prevention programming, youth development, and secondary school improvement. ESR offers comprehensive programs, staff development, consultation, and resources for adults who teach children and young people preschool through high school, in settings including K-12 schools, early childhood centers and afterschool programmes.

As a start, ESR and HREA will develop free online lessons for ESR's Online Teacher Center. HREA will also brief ESR about current human rights topics that are important for teachers and youth to be educated about. We look forward to working with ESR to develop new resources that bring human rights into classrooms in the United States.
