Program Associate (E-Learning)

One of HREA's most successful activities is its innovative Distance Learning Program, through which since 2002 over 6,500 human rights defenders from 135 countries have been trained. HREA now offers fifty courses annually for over 2,000 participants. HREA is looking to hire a Program Associate to join its e-learning team.

Job title: Program Associate (E-Learning)

Reports to: Program Manager (E-Learning)

Job summary: The Program Associate will help design engaging self-directed courses and will manage the delivery of instructor-led courses (40 hours).

Designing self-directed courses involves research, drafting content and entering content into course software. Instructor-led courses require preparing syllabi, coordinating and communicating with instructors and learners, and managing the delivery of course content. For example, the Program Associate will coordinate and moderate the delivery of webinar presentations with instructors and guest experts.

The Program Associate will have to quickly learn new skills and adopt procedures on the job. HREA's courses serve a global network of human rights professionals, so the ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds is an important skill.

  • a graduate degree or equivalent job experience;
  • a basic understanding of human rights;
  • proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint;
  • a demonstrated interest to learn new software;
  • excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills;
  • the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks;
  • accuracy and an eye for detail.

Desired experience and skills: An ideal applicant will possess at least some of the following:

  • e-learning experience, including having taken or facilitated online courses;
  • knowledge of learning management systems, particularly Moodle;
  • understanding of instructional design principles;
  • in addition to English, fluency in Arabic, French or Mandarin Chinese;
  • experience with communication software, including Skype or webinars;
  • skills with multimedia software, such as Photoshop, Flash, Audacity, or others;
  • experience using Articulate Presenter, Engage and Quizmaker;
  • ability with or interest in graphic design;
  • in-depth understanding of one or more human rights areas.

The position is based in HREA's main office in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA).

Salary and benefits: The salary range for this position is $41,640 - $47,830, depending upon experience. Employer-paid benefits include medical, dental, disability, a retirement savings incentive plan and 25 paid holiday/vacation days. Other benefits: tele-commuting opportunities and annual professional development credit.

HREA is an equal opportunity employer.

The application deadline for this position was Friday, June 1, 2012. Anticipated starting date is July 9, 2012.
