Description This resource packet is aimed at secondary schools and contains valuable material to familiarise young people with the values, principles and concepts associated with the proposed Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland. Interactive lessons using local and international examples allow pupils and their teachers to explore the topics of children’s rights, social and economic rights, group identity and the two main communities, equality and non-discrimination, and ethnic minorities in Northern Ireland. This resource contains activities suitable for pupils aged 11-14 (Key Stage 3) and 15-18 (Key Stage 4/post-16). The activities are designed to lead young people towards a deeper understanding of the content and processes at the core of the proposed Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland. In this way, the activities may be taken as part of a structured learning experience over a period of 10 weeks, or longer. All activities in the pack link to the statements of entitlement specified in the curriculum for Local and Global Citizenship education. Specific links for each lesson are indicated in the tables below and in each lesson outline. Specific learning outcomes are also indicated in each lesson outline.
