Human Rights Map intern

What we need

HREA seeks an intern to research content for the development of the HREA Human Rights Map including country and region specific human rights news, reports, and indicators.

Responsibilities

The intern will be responsible for:

• researching information to include on the Human Rights Map;
• creating and editing country pages and other map content;
• consolidating and importing relevant information from HREA's website;
• beta testing and troubleshooting the map;
• time permitting and depending on the intern's particular skills and knowledge, assisting HREA's Information Officer with additional tasks.

Knowledge/Skills

An ideal applicant will possess the following:

• excellent writing skills in English;
• strong research, editing and communication skills;
• an interest in human rights, education and online learning;
• an eye for detail;
• demonstrated ability to work well independently and prioritize tasks.

Familiarity with online mapping programs and systems such as Google Maps, Google Earth, Mapbox and GIS is helpful but not required.

When

Starting as early as 3 June 2013, but we are flexible about start date. Availability into the fall preferred.

Where

At HREA's office in Central Square, Cambridge, MA.

Hours required

Flexible depending on availability, but at least 16 hours per week preferred.

Support available

This internship is unpaid. However, interns benefit from working in a small non-profit environment and from the myriad human rights and education opportunities available in the Boston area.
