HREA launches Community of Practice on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment

Today, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, HREA launches the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Community of Practice. This virtual community aims to connect alumni from HREA’s courses and training workshops on various topics around gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The Community is a space for sharing and discussing good practices, lessons learned and new initiatives in programming aimed at realizing gender equality. We are launching the Community today, 25 November 2014, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The day marks an occasion to raise public awareness about violence against women and gender dynamics that can lead to such violence.

The Community is focused around seven central topics: gender and human rights; gender mainstreaming; engaging men and boys; women’s empowerment; gender-based violence; gender and armed conflict; and gender and education. We encourage you to share resources that you find helpful and interesting to your work, start discussions, ask questions of your colleagues, and engage fully with this vast community of practitioners working on these issues.

Under the framework of the community of practice, HREA will organize quarterly webinars with experts as well as a number of thematic virtual discussions. Members will also receive a monthly newsletter which will be a compilation of resources as well as posts from the Community.
