Launch of the "Citizenship of Humanity Project"
Where: Parliament House Canberra
When: 10 December, 4.00 pm
Description: The Federal Parliamentary Sub-Committee on Human Rights hosted a launch of the project which aims to encourage 350,000 final year primary students in Australia to undertake classroom discussion of human rights based around the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Participants are recognised by the award of a Citizenship of Humanity Certificate. The project is being carried out by the National Committee on Human Rights Education Inc. The Attorney-General and Shadow Attorney-General joined in launching the project.

Description: Every year, from November 25 to December 10, the campaign highlights the connections between women, violence, and human rights. The time period

anniversary of the Montreal Massacre when 14 women engineering students were murdered by a male student; and December 10, Human Rights Day. Bianca Jagger, a longtime human rights activist, will host the December 10 panel, which will also include Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Director of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Christiana Thorpe, President of the Forum for African Women Educationalists in Sierra Leone and Jeanne Ward, Gender-based Violence Research Officer, Reproductive Health for Refugees Consortium.
