Experts meet at HREA to discuss good practices in human rights education

Last week a team of European experts met at HREA’s offices to discuss the “Compendium of good practices in the area of human rights education, citizenship education and education for mutual respect and understanding” that HREA is currently preparing. Mr. Siarhei Salei (Belarus), Mr. Philippe Paelman (Belgium) and HREA’s Director Felisa Tibbitts had a two-day meeting to review entries in order to calibrate review criteria.

HREA is compiling the “Compendium of good practices in the area of human rights education, citizenship education and education for mutual respect and understanding” in conjunction with Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR)/Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Council of Europe, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and UNESCO. Submissions have been accepted for the primary and secondary level schooling sectors in addition to teacher training institutions. This Compendium is being developed for the 56 countries of the OSCE regions of Europe, Central Asia and North America. As of 15 February, over 190 submissions had been received.

A partner meeting will take place in Warsaw (Poland) in mid-March in order to finalise submissions accepted.
