Calendar July 2002 28 July 2-August 2002 Continued dramatic changes in the global order offer unique challenges and opportunities to teachers striving to help students understand the threats to peace at home and abroad, as well as preparing young people to take their places in an increasingly complex world. The eleventh annual summer institute designed to enhance substantive expertise and teaching skills primarily for use in secondary school classes in world history, United States history and government, and global studies. Level: professional Location: Washington, DC, USA Participants: secondary school social studies teachers. Tuition, fee, lodging: The U. S. Institute of Peace will provide housing for the participants in a hotel close to the Institute's offices in downtown Washington, D.C. In addition, the Institute will provide each participant an honorarium that will cover the costs of travel to and from Washington in return for the curriculum materials each teacher is asked to develop. The deadline for receipt of applications is February 19, 2002.
