International Course on Gender and Peace Building

The International Course on Gender and the challenge of peace building is an advanced one-week course organized, as a joint effort, by the University for Peace and the Inter-agencies gender thematic group of the United Nations Coordination System. This course offers the opportunity to establish dialogue among colleagues from around the world, to face new challenges in this field and to improve practical skills in a warm and user friendly atmosphere.

Special attention will be given to Gender as a Cross-Cutting Issue when presenting topics such as:

  • From women to gender perspectives

  • Human Rights and women's rights

  • The UN System and the protection of women

  • Peace and Security

  • Governance and changing gender roles

  • Refugee and displaced persons issues

The program has been designed to not only transmit knowledge from recognised experts on the subject, but also to generate and create knowledge based on the expertise of the participants.

Course Objectives:

  • To strengthen and empower participants in topics related to Gender for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of their programs and projects

  • To learn through theory and practice, including the sharing of experiences, about the relationship between gender issues and peace building processes

  • To establish a thematic dialogue among professionals with similar responsibilities in diverse environments

  • To strengthen the training and capacity building skills, knowledge, abilities and networks among UN agencies, other resource people and the University for Peace

Participants: UN agencies staff members

Tuition, fee, lodging: USD 2100, which includes tuition, room and board, medical insurance, learning materials, programme activities and internal transportation.
