E-learning courses on human rights, disaster relief and humanitarian action (January-April 2015)

In HREA’s upcoming e-learning courses on human rights, disaster relief and humanitarian aid, you can:
  • learn about the legal frameworks protecting and governing education in emergencies;
  • understand resilience as a framework within humanitarian action from a rights-based perspective;
  • identify and begin to practice leadership skills in the humanitarian sector.

These 6-week instructor-led courses are intended for humanitarian workers, staff of development and civil society organizations, child rights advocates and all those interested in promoting and protecting human rights in humanitarian action.

Each course involves approximately 30 hours of reading, discussion, webinars, written assignment(s) and quizzes. Case studies will be used to enable interactive learning and activities. Students who successfully complete a course will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Spotlight: E-course ‘Sphere Handbook in Action’

This self-directed course will help you explore and put into practice the Sphere Project’s Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response, which defines the principles, rights and standards that should be applied to all humanitarian work.

After taking this course, you will be able to:

  • explain the Sphere principles and standards;
  • understand minimum standards in education, livelihoods and early recovery and cross-cutting themes in areas such as gender and disaster risk reduction;
  • learn how to apply Sphere principles and standards to disaster and conflict situations.
This course is available in English and will soon be available in Arabic, French and Spanish.
